What is A.M.I. E?
AMIE stands for Associate Member of Institution of Engineers.

AMIE-Who is eligible?
A recognized 3-year Polytechnic Diploma or its equivalent in any branch of engineering or after completion of 10+2 examination with science stream or any educational qualifications equivalent to the above, are also eligible to apply for AMIE.
Note: Recently, admissions on the basis of 10+2 have been stopped by IEI till further notice.
Those who pursue AMIE after their Diploma course are usually known as Diploma Stream Students (Senior Technician members).

Syllabus
The syllabus of AMIE is similar to B.E/B.Tech.
The AMIE syllabus has two parts:- Section A and Section B (similar to First year,Second year etc. of any formal degree course).
Those who join for AMIE should first study and clear all subjects in Section A. Based on one's qualification, the total number of subjects in Section A varies.
After passing Section A, he should study Section B. The total number of subjects in Section B is 9.
Diploma holder should study just 13 papers to clear AMIE (4 papers in Section A and 9 papers in Section B), however no diploma 10+2 students taken admission to clear 17 papers to clear AMIE (8 papers in Section A and 9 papers in Section B).
In Section A we study subjects which are fundamental to engineering. In section B, we make specialized study in our chosen branch of engineering. When a student clears all subjects in both sections A and B. he is said to have passed A.M.I.E examination and becomes a qualified graduate engineer.
Duration
The duration of AMIE is flexible. For completing Section A and B, maximum time allowed is six years each. (So total 12 years). Though this is the maximum allowed duration, a student who systematically studies the course can successfully finish the course in a shorter period. Students who study the course under any of our coaching programmes can complete the course in 4 semesters (Diploma holders).

Examination
The examinations are conducted in every June and December in all major cities in India. All enrolled students can appear for examination in any center convenient to them.
Admission Fees
The fees depends on the mode of your study.
For Distance Mode is as given below, however time to time fee structure are revised by IEI, hence requesting to obtain the accurate information about fee structure from the IEI Website.

For contact mode fees are Approx Rs 15000/- per semester, however it is requested to candidates, directly esquire from the AMIE centres of their city who are conducting the contact mode programs for candidates in weekend.
The AMIE examinations are conducted in every June and December.
AMIE Examination Summer 2020 scheduled to start from August 16, 2020. (maybe modified later). You can see details of time table in IEI website. A student can appear examination in a center anywhere in India or abroad. But the maximum number of subjects that a candidate can appear at a single chance is 4. If he fails in one subject, he can appear the same subject again till he completely passes that subject.
Those who wish to appear for examination must apply in the prescribed format at the time mentioned below. When a student clears all subjects in both sections A and B he is said to have passed A.M.I.E examination and becomes a qualified graduate engineer.
Who can apply for Exam
All members (Technician/Senior Technician/Associate etc) of Institution having valid membership number (ST/T/AM etc) are eligible for appearing the AMIE examination. If you are waiting for membership after submitting application form, then you cannot apply until you get your membership number
However, if you got your membership number and waiting for ID card, you are also eligible for applying. You will need to produce the ID card at the exam hall only.
Exam Fee
Examination fee is Rs 3000/- for appearing in any centers in India, and 225 USD (= Rs 16200/-), outside India. The examination fee is same irrespective of the number of subjects you appear at a time/chance.
Mode of Fee Payment
If you prefer to apply for exam in offline mode (post/courier), you can pay exam fee in the form of DD only drawn in favour of "The Institution of Engineers (India)", payable at "Kolkata". Cheque/Money Order etc will not be accepted.
How to apply for exam
The application for examination can be submitted online or offline (by post). The procedure for applying for AMIE examination is given below.
Procedure Offline application
1. Get the Application Form (you can use the form which is available with your admission pack) or you may download the form from the website.
2. Draw DD for exam fee. The DD must drawn in favour of "The Institution of Engineers (India)" payable at Kolkata.
3. Write your ST/T number and name in the reverse side of DD.
4. Choose your preferred examination center and note down code number of that center.
5. Fill up exam form. Dont forget to enter correct DD details, various exam related codes
6. Keep a Xerox copy of filled up exam form and DD for future reference.

How to apply ONLINE
In order to apply through online mode, you must have an active login details created by IEI, Kolkata. If you know your login details (username and password), you can directly login and apply.
Dont know username and password?
If you don't know your username and password, please try this steps to get it:-
1. Visit the page for online examination. Link to exam application .
2. Use forgot password option.
3. In the box provided, enter your Membership Number/Mobile Number / email ID. (Any one of these will be your username).
4. Check if you get a temporary password in your mobile/email.
5. If you get a temporary password, you can use that password to login.
6. After logging in, you may change your password.
7. Also after loggin in your can see option for Examination Application.

Exam Centers
There are 70 examination centers all over India and abroad. Students may choose any examination center to his convenience. The preferred exam center need be selected only at the time of applying for exam. If wishes, he/she may change exam center in each semester.
Hall Ticket (Admit Card)
Hall tickets will not be sent to any one's address. Students can download hall ticket from website about two week prior to commencement of examination and get the print out of the same. They have to furnish the admit card as well as Membership card at the exam hall entrance.
Rejection of Forms
The list of candidates whose application forms were rejected by IEI shall be published in the website before the commencement of examination.
Fee on rejected examination forms shall be refunded after deducting processing fee of Rs 150/-.
In case a candidate claims that in-spite of submitting an examination form, he has neither been provided with Admission Card nor any information about rejection of his application, he can submit a fresh examination form along with a demand draft of Rs. 1500/- only (150 USD abroad), with the photocopies of his original examination form, details of the demand draft and a copy of the postal receipt to the Officer-in-Charge for provisional appearance in the examination. In case the candidate's claim is found not to be in order, the fee deposited by him shall be forfeited and his appearance shall be treated as irregular.
Fee will not be refunded or adjusted for submission of duplicate examination form.
Students Upgraded from T to ST
A Technician member, after passing diploma qualification, changes his membership to Senior Technician, s/he shall be considered, on request, as exempted from Section 'A' Examination, provided s/he has secured exemption (obtained Grade 'C' or above with minimum GPA being 6) in four common subjects of same nomenclature in both Section 'A' (Non-diploma) and Section 'A' (Diploma) of revised syllabus. No pass grade card of Section 'A' shall be issued. S/he shall be eligible to register for Section 'B', with requisite fee, with an undertaking that s/he shall not claim pass grade card for Section 'A'. The CGPA shall be calculated only on the basis of Section 'B' Examination, project work and laboratory experiments.
Language Hindi/English?
Candidates who studied Diploma in Hindi medium can write his amie examination in Hindi or English. The following conditions apply
1. Technician members cannot avail this facility.
2. Only ST members who studied Diploma in Hindi medium can apply for this option .( A certificate from the college principle to be produced)
3. If applied, the candidate has to appear all subjects of Section A and B in Hindi.
4. Subjects already passed in English medium (if any) will be cancelled and the candidate must appear all subjects again.
5. Once Hindi medium was allowed, he/she will not be allowed to change the medium to English.
